Si beve principalmente in Nord Africa come karkade, una bevanda rinfrescante da gustare sia calda che fredda. In Europa è meglio conosciuta negli infusi di ibisco, rosa canina e di frutta, che devono il loro colore rosso vivo e fruttato ai calici carnosi.
